A new era has arrived, with the technology of Tempneed. Behold, the amazing Tempneed has the ability to keep your body warm, with Tempneed Flame, or cold, with Tempneed Ice. This new discovery is a breakthrough in science that will be of great use to the people. Tempneed is very easy to use; It is in the form of a thick liquid sustance, very similar to lotion. All you got to do is to squirt some out of the bottle and rub it on the parts of your skin you want the effect to take place. Some people say it works like magic, and there is no denying that.

Once Tempneed Flame is gently rubbed onto your skin, the sensation of heat will fill your desires. The heat will take effect in a matter of seconds, working just like a "flame". Tempneed Flame is very useful; For example, if one is walking to school and the freezing wind will not die down, Tempneed Flame can keep you warm even when shirtless! Of course, Tempneed will not keep up the heat forever for your skin. Tempneed Flame will die down depending on its FPF(flame potential factor). There is a variety of lows as 15 FPF and the highs, 75 FPF.

Tempneed Ice is another great choice. It's coolness will ice your body, filling its need for cool ice. It is guarenteed very useful to the human race; For example, if one is walking through a desert with no trace of cool wind, Tempneed Ice can keep the body cool and hydrated. You won't even notice you're walking through a hot desert with Tempneed Ice on your skin! However amazing it is, though, it does run out sometime. Tempneed Ice comes in different IPF(ice potential factor) ranging from 15 IPF to 75 IPF.

PROVEN AMAZING.

Biological Breakthrough: MICROSCOPE

The microscope was possibly the greatest invention of all times. The very first working microscope was invented by Hans and Zacharias Janssen, Dutch eyeglass makers in the late 1500s. Today, the microscope is a greatly dependable instrument for many scientists. A whole lot of life on Earth is microscopic(protists), making the microscope very useful. The microscope is also credited for many other scientific discoveries. For example, the view inside your body; All the tiny molecules that flow through your bloodstream, such as red and white blood cells, and platelets are discovered by the view of the microscope. The microscope led to a great enlightenment in the history of science.

I think that if it hadn't been for the microscope, many medicines for diseases wouldn't be available for the sick. The whole protist world would be undiscovered. Anyway, the microscope will continue to help us make some amazing discoveries in the future. Who knows? There can be anything out there that still hasn't been discovered. Something microscopic? Maybe. Maybe a whole kingdom of life is yet to be discovered by the microscope in 2100...? The microscope was a great breakthrough in science history and will continue to brighten the microscopic world in the years to come.

Growing Gasoline

Recent studies have found a way to create a new type of gasoline called green gasoline. Instead of using the dwindling amount of gasoline left from the prehistoric times, gasoline can be growed on plants such as switch grass and poplar trees. George Huber, a chemical engineer, was the founder of this new technique. He found a way to converting plant cellulose into gasoline components. Similarly, James Dumesic has announced a way of using green gas for jet fuel. This green gas may take around ten years to arrive at the pump of the gas station. Even when they will, many people won't even know they are using a different type of gasoline. "It is likely that the future consumer will not even know that they are putting biofuels into their car," said Huber.

The whole process of creating green gasoline is quite simple. First, cellulose is rapidly heated. The liquid is then rapidly cooled to create a substance very similar to gasoline. The compounds that formed in that single step, like naphthalene and toluene, make up one fourth of the suite of chemicals found in gasoline. The liquid can be further treated to form the remaining gasoline components.

Gibsmithia hawaiiensis

TAXONOMY
Domain- Eukarya
Kingdom- Protista
(subkingdom- Biliphyta)
Phylum- Rhodophyta(RED ALGAE)
(subphylum- Macrorhodophytina)
Class- Florideophyceae
Order- Gigartinales
Family- Dumontiaceae
Genus- Gibsmithia
species- hawaiiensis
---------------------------
HABITAT
This red algae lives in the tropical oceans. It is one of the amazing organisms that make up the coral reefs in the seas. They tend to live in the deeper waters because of its pigment that absorbs blue light.

PREDATORS
Because of it's habitat in the seas, the Gibsmithia hawaiiensis is constantly preyed by many other sea creatures. Some predators can be fish and crabs.

ITS PREY
The Gibsmithia hawaiiensis don't need to devour anything to survive; it eats NOTHING. Algae has the ability to make its own food with chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is a pigment that takes in sunlight to generate energy for food production. Then carbon dioxide is taken in from the water to make glucose. Glucose, a type of sugar, is their source of food.

ANATOMY
As multicellular organisms, the Gibsmithia hawaiiensis can be seen with the naked eye. They possess three pigments: phycoerythrin, phycocyanin and allophycocyanine. The pigment phycoerrythrin gives the organism a red color. This is also the pigment that reflects red light and absorbs blue light. This algae appears in a funny form that makes it stand out from all the other algae types. It has many thick loose branches branching out from a central root. Its branches have a round, curvy shape. In addition, these algae can vary from 3-12 cm in size.
EXTRA
The oldest red algae fossil found was also the most ancient eukaryote fossil discovered.

Also, red algae is a great daily use in our world. They carry ingredients such as carrageenan and agar in them, which are often used as gelling agents for food, paint, and cosmetics. If sheets of algae are toasted, they can also be used to wrap sushi.

Guest Speaker talks of "Evolution"

Today Dr. Louise S. Mead of the National Center for Science Education presented the ideas and evidence for evolution. She explained that evolution is the change in a species over time. Because of evolution, everything on earth is related to a common ancestor. Another important fact she strained on was that Darwin was the first man to efficiently explain evolution with evidence and details.

Next she talked about the main processes of evolution, each responsible for the variety of species we have today. They were natural selection, genetic drift, evo-devo, and lastly, mutation.

A power point was also presented to help us further understand the details of evolution. It displayed five types of evidence for evolution:
1. Biogeography: distributions of fossils around the world and how they got there
2. Comparative Anatomy: distribution of similar characteristics in the great diversity of species

3. Molecular Biology: study of how the number of human chromosomes and DNA differed from other species
4. Fossil Record: how vertebrates came to live on the land; distribution of fossils
5. Developemental Biology: comparison of genes

Overral this presentation helped me better understand the concept of evolution and the evidence of how it came about. I appreciate the time Mead took to fully break down the word "evolution."

YOUR BDAY EFFECTS YOUR ABILITY (blog post #3)

--------------

IS THIS REALLY TRUE????

Researchers have long wondered whether a baby's birth date will effect them, as in personality/ability. It turns out that babies born in the spring are smarter and more intellectual than babies born in the winter. In addition, researchers found out that people born in autumn will be more physically active, exceling in sports, such as football. While autumn babies would be more active and play sports, spring babies would be more suited to chess. Even more odd, babies born in different seasons could effect their health. There is growing evidence that babies born in late winter and early spring have a greater chance of developing schizophrenia. These all go for both female and males. However, there is a reason behind all this. “The variations … are explained by the seasonal variations in our solar system. For example, winter has less sunlight and lower temperatures and the epidemics of virus infections are more prevalent,” Professor Chotai said. Temperature, light-exposures, and nutrition(etc.), all change during different seasons, which effect the future of the baby born.

REFLECTION

I picked this article to write about because the heading was pretty interesting. After I read it, it WAS interesting. I never thought that a bday could effect the future person's ability and personality. What is even more amazing is the fact that a birth date could give you a higher chance of a disease. This was a fun topic to research about, seeing that I'm born in May. May is spring, and I guess I'm pretty good in academics. On the other hand, my sister is born in autumn, and likes to do sports.

It's works! It's true! :)
